Home Alone is the #1 most-watched film on Christmas Eve. And that’s because of one thing:
Its dang near perfect set-up.
You have an 11-year-old kid who’s afraid of the fricking basement. Who ends up home alone having to defeat two moderately retarded crooks from robbing his family’s home.
It’s genius because you want to know what’s next. And if you make it so that any ad, social media post, or blog you create has the same effect on your audience, you WILL get more sales.
And the easiest (and fastest) way to achieve that is by focusing on your headlines! They’re the first thing your audience reads. And if they’re good, you can basically force someone to pay attention to whatever you create!
That’s why in today's article I’m showing you 3 tips to create killer headlines. But before we get to that, let’s cover something equally important…
Why A Headline Fails To Get The Attention of The Right People
There’s two things people hate the most - besides waking up to a snowless garden on a Christmas morning - and it’s being bored. And feeling like their time is being wasted.
Now in the physical world, if either one happens, we simply go do something else.
Here’s an example:
I once watched an episode of a dating show. And a man was telling his date a story. And about 5 seconds in, she was already halfway done memorizing the ingredients of the Ketchup bottle.
Online is the same. If the headline bores your audience, they will consume something else. And you’re screwed.
Your article stays stuck on zero views.
Your social media post gets zero more likes. Or followers. And doesn’t go viral.
And your ad keeps eating away your money without getting you any new clients.
Luckily, you can avoid all that if you create better headlines. So, here’s…
3 Tips To Write Headlines That Effortlessly Get Attention And Make You Money
The first one is to be as specific as possible by including numbers. Ideally, you want the reader to look at your headline and think, ‘WOW, I need to know this’.
And to do that, you have to make outlandish claims. But that only works if it is specific. If it’s vague, people won’t think it’s real. And you lose them.
Second one, include action words. Good options: tricks, secrets, hacks, ways, facts, etc. Remember, people hate wasting time. And that means they don’t want to just read an article for the sake of reading. That’s what Harry Potter novels are for.
No, your audience wants actionable advice. So after they’re done, they can use that advice to get what they want.
Third one, be creative with your adjectives. Look at my headline. Why did I use ‘dead-simple’ instead of simple? That’s because people want to read the best of the best. The extraordinary stuff no one has ever read.
And by using adjectives like ‘never-seen-before, brand-new, dead-simple’ and others, you make them feel like they’re reading something special.
And for the real, dedicated readers, here’s one more tip. Test, test, test. You can’t create the perfect headline if you’re only writing one. Try writing 5. Or 10. Then you can see and compare.
Apply those 4 tips, and I promise you money is going to roll in.
